Several years ago two men that put on ropings were visiting. One was Dan the other was John. They were discussing the different aspects of what all it took to put on a successful roping.
Somehow they got to discussing which roper griped the most. It seems both Dan and John had their fair share of butt chewings from mad ropers at one time or another. It was about this time that Dan told John, “I wish someone would take Jim and Jerry out to sea and leave them in the middle of the ocean.
Dan and John went on discussing all the aspects of being a successful producer and what not. As John was about to leave he asked Dan, “now what did you say? Take them out in a boat and leave them?” Dan replied back, “heck don’t waste a good boat, just throw them in and leave!”
Exactly two weeks later Dan was putting on a roping. As he was walking from his pickup to the arena a truck and horse trailer came pulling in. Lo and behold it was Jim and Jerry, the two gripingest ropers that ever walked, and they were both wearing a life jacket when they got out of the truck!
That day, the roping went off with not one single person griping, even though they were five hundred miles from the nearest ocean. As the old saying goes, he who laugh last laughs best!
