FORT WORTH, TX (February 25, 2024) – The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame will celebrate the remarkable contributions of four individuals and one escaramuza team dedicated to the growth of charrería in the United States. These award winners will be recognized at the 2nd Annual Escaramuza Recognition Breakfast on March 8th at the Museum. The ceremony will be live streamed via Facebook by the Federacion Mexicana de Charrería, or FMCH.

Those being recognized are Jocelyn Cruz, one of the youngest and most successful female riders to compete in punteaderos and caladeros; Juanita Talamantes, as a fundadora (founder) and Delegada (state delegate) of escaramuza in Colorado; Heidi Ramirez, a fundadora of escaramuza in Texas and supporter of the next generation of Escaramuzas in North Texas; Patricia Lopez for her commitment as a competitor, mentor, and team captain for over 35 years of Rayo de Esperanza, the team being recognized for its longevity as an actively competing team since 1991.

These exceptional women will be celebrated at a private breakfast ceremony at the Cowgirl Museum, alongside the winners of the inaugural Charra Grant, which was generously underwritten by Elliott Ranches, LLC. District 11 Councilwoman Jeanette Martinez will join Cowgirl Museum Associate Executive Director, Diana Vela, P.hD on stage to present the awards.

“We are incredibly proud to honor these inspiring women who have dedicated themselves to preserving and promoting the rich Mexican tradition of charrería, here in the United States,” said Vela. “Their passion and commitment are vital to ensuring this vibrant cultural heritage continues to thrive for generations to come.”

Following the ceremony, the Museum will open its doors to the public at 11:30 a.m. for an afternoon of free admission, photo opportunities, live music, and a food truck. Community partners, Visit Fort Worth, Visita Fort Worth and Artes de la Rosa will also be set up at the Museum with booths and activities.

The exhibition, Soldaderas to Amazonas: Escaramuzas Charras is on view until May 12, 2025. This event will be a great opportunity to see the exhibition and celebrate Mexican heritage!
