AAA Launches Annual ‘Batteries for Trees’ Campaign
OKLAHOMA CITY – April 22, 2024 – If your car battery is more than three-years-old, now might be the most eco-friendly time of year to replace it.
AAA has launched its 13th annual ‘Batteries for Trees’ campaign, pledging to plant one new tree for every battery replaced by either its Emergency Roadside Service team, now through Sunday, April 28. The campaign represents AAA’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability. Over the past 12 years, the Batteries for Trees initiative has led to the planting of over 50,000 trees in National Forests through the Arbor Day Foundation. In 2024, AAA aims to bring its total contribution to more than 61,500 trees planted in National Forests across the country.
“As an organization, AAA prioritizes environmental sustainability because we understand its direct impact on the well-being of our Members, Associates, and the communities we serve,” says Amber Zionkowski, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at AAA Club Alliance. “Our ‘Batteries for Trees’ campaign actively contributes to a healthier environment for all.”
In addition to the battery recycling initiative, customers who visit any AAA Retail store can also help plant a tree by donating $1 or more.
Every Day is Earth Day at AAA
Eco-friendly business practices are a top priority for AAA year-round. As an example, 100% of car batteries replaced by AAA are recycled. This critical practice has significant environmental benefits, including the reduction of toxic waste and the unnecessary creation of new materials.
The organization also empowers its Members to transition towards cleaner transportation solutions. AAA.com offers a rich resource to support anyone considering the purchase of an electric vehicle (EV) and those who have already made the investment. The organization’s EV microsite helps Members weigh the pros and cons of EV ownership, choose the EV that best meets their needs and then manage the EV experience once they buy.
An Expanding Fleet of “Green” Machines
For several years, AAA has been expanding its fleet of vehicles powered by alternative fuels. To date, almost two dozen of our service trucks are fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG). These ‘green’ trucks use renewable natural gas (RNG), which offsets AAA’s carbon footprint by more than 300 tons of carbon dioxide per year over fossil natural gas.
