The first-ever grant created specifically for active escaramuzas will award $2,000 to five deserving teams across the United States

Fort Worth, Texas – January 24, 2025 – The National Cowgirl Museum is proud to announce the winners of the first-annual Charra Grant, an initiative designed to support the continued growth and development of escaramuza teams, providing them with resources to further their training, enhance their performances, and help relieve the substantial costs that come with competing on behalf of the United States. The Museum’s Viva La Vaquera committee selected five recipients from a group of more than 30 applicants from across the country. The competition was fierce, and the winners were selected based on their skills, creativity, and commitment to the sport and culture of charrería.

The 2025 Charra Grant recipients are:

  • Charra El Edén – Illinois
  • Coronelas de Oregon – Oregon
  • Reinas del Valle – Idaho
  • Villa de Guadalupe – Texas
  • Mi Querer – California

These exceptional teams will be celebrated at the 2nd-Annual Escaramuza Recognition Breakfast on March 8th, 2025 at the National Cowgirl Museum, where they will officially receive their grants.

The teams that made it to the final round of selections will also be awarded custom broches made in Mexico by Escapularios Teoyocoyani to commemorate their accomplishment. Those Grant finalists are Las Tapatías, Flor de Campo, Flor de Campo “B”, Las Girasoles de California, and Las Valentinas del Valle de Coachella.

“We are so pleased to award these teams with much needed funding,”  said Diana Vela, Ph.D, Associate Executive Director at the National Cowgirl Museum. “It is appropriate that the first grant of its kind, supporting charras, has started at the place that honors cowgirls year round. Each of these teams embodies the values of the Cowgirl Museum and we look forward to celebrating their achievements and helping them grow in the coming year.”

The 2025 Grant is made possible thanks to the generous underwriting of Elliott Ranches, LLC. Their commitment to preserving the legacy of charrería and empowering women in the sport is truly appreciated. Sponsorship opportunities of the Escaramuza Recognition Breakfast are available. Interested parties, please contact charra@cowgirl.net or call 817-509-8969.

The National Cowgirl Museum also wishes to thank all the teams who applied for the grant. We encourage those who were not selected this year to apply again when the application period reopens later in 2025.
