Graveside services for Barbara Gayle James, 71, of Shady Point, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Fairview Cemetery in Panama, Oklahoma. Officiating will be Jim Cook and Marie Akins. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
Barbara was born on July 17, 1953, in Panama, Oklahoma, and passed away on May 16, 2025.
She worked for Whirlpool for 26 years and was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. Barbara found joy in the simple things—watching westerns, feeding hummingbirds, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Her love for her family was evident in everything she did.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sonny Walker and Elda Mae, and her brother, Mark Walker.
Barbara is survived by her children: son, Shaun Colwell; daughters, Robyn Brewer and Cassie James. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Cole Colwell, Joy Kitzrow, Dalton Colwell, Rylee Brewer, Jackson Brewer, Jacey James, and Stryker James; and her great-grandchild, Luke Colwell. She is also survived by her brothers: Gerald Gotes, Gary Walker, Paul Walker, Scott Hilstrom, and Keith Cox, along with many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Barbara will be remembered for her kind heart, warm spirit, and deep devotion to her family.
