Bill was born on October 31, 1926, in Pitcher, Oklahoma, to Sada (Hughes) Cupp and William Aaron Cupp. Pitcher was later evacuated due to dangerous mining debris, a defining chapter in the town’s history.
At the age of 17, Bill enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, where he served as an aerial photographer in the Philippines. Following his military service, he spent most of his working life in California.
Bill took early retirement, and he and his wife Billie June Cupp spent many years enjoying winters in Yuma, Arizona, surrounded by friends. In 1983, they returned permanently to Oklahoma, where Bill remained the rest of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his spouses, Billie June Cupp and Emily Cupp; son John Cupp; and two sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Bill Cupp and wife Mary of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; daughter, Beverly Weaver of Muskogee, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Rhonda Sue Holman, Jayne Katherine Hill, Candice Ferrari, and Tiffani Sexton; grandsons, James Madison Cupp, John Emery Edward Cupp, Taylor Lee Cupp, Aaron Cupp, and Will Martin; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, Oklahoma, with Phil McGehee officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, Oklahoma, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
