Memorial Service for Brett Alan Hemphill, of Monroe, Oklahoma will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Evans Memorial Chapel in Poteau, Oklahoma.

Brett Alan Hemphill, 45 years of age, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2023 surrounded by a large group of family and friends. In his last hours, the stadium cheers from the Bedlam game could be heard in his room along with joyful stories and fond memories. Sadly, Brett had to hear OSU defeat OU in the last Bedlam game, but he also heard love and laughter all around him which is what he truly loved most, being among a crowd at his party.

Brett was born May 3, 1978 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Debra Joy (Cavins) Stroup and Joe Paul Hemphill, Jr. were blessed with a happy, compassionate boy who was gentle, kind and rarely said a cross word to anyone.

Brett loved all things music. From a young age, he enjoyed singing and dancing. Growing up with sisters, there were frequent choreographed lip sync routines that involved glow-in-the-dark face paint and totally rad moves.

Brett enjoyed fishing, basketball, football, baseball and sports statistics. A perfect day for Brett would include a gathering of those dear to him, some good music, a cold beer, and a win for OU, the Dallas Cowboys, or the newest World Series champions, the Texas Rangers.

Brett is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Joe Paul and Wilma Hemphill, uncle Dennis Hemphill, cousin Brea (Rust) Gammel, and his maternal grandparents Doyle and Louise (Herrington) Cavins. He is survived by his parents Debra (Cavins) Stroup and Joe Hemphill, Jr and spouse, Kaye (Haddock) Hemphill, sisters Nikki Weaver-Aguero, Natalie Weaver, and Beverly (Hemphill) Fanning, numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and more friends than any person on the planet.

For those that have the desire to give to a cause, donations can be made to the colorectal cancer treatment center of your choice or the Reynold’s Cancer Center in Fort Smith, AR.

This account is solely for donations in Brett’s honor for a memorial bench and future scholarships.
