Dorothy Sue Armes, 87, of Poteau, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, in Poteau. She was born on October 26, 1937, in Rockwood, Tennessee, to Maggie (Main) Melhorn and Henry Melhorn.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Margie Henderson and Jean Majors; her brothers, Carl Melhorn and Richard Melhorn; and her beloved great-granddaughter, Hannah Michelle Elmore.
Dorothy lived a full and faithful life. She was a devoted member of the Poteau First Baptist Church for many years and found great strength and community in her faith. She spent many years working as an office manager in Long Beach, California, where she built lasting friendships and contributed with dedication and grace.
In her leisure time, Dorothy enjoyed many hobbies that reflected her warm and creative spirit. She loved crocheting, doing word puzzles, baking cakes, and bowling. In her later years, she embraced technology with enthusiasm and quickly became fond of her iPad, especially games like Sudoku and digital puzzles. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She cherished every moment with them, offering unconditional love, wisdom, and laughter.
Dorothy is survived by her loving daughter, Ramona Deleplank of the home; granddaughter, Erika Elmore and husband Curtis of Poteau; great-granddaughter, Sierra Elmore and fiancé Joseph Stryffeler of Calhoun, OK; great-grandsons, Zachary Elmore and Jacob Elmore, both of Poteau; and great-great-granddaughter, Raylynn Elmore of Poteau. She is also survived by her bonus great-granddaughter, Morgan Elise, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, loved ones, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, Oklahoma, with Phil McGehee officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
