Born on November 17, 1962, in Norman, Oklahoma, Eddie was the beloved son of Don Alton Martin and Vera Darlene Hamner, affectionately known to many as “Lil Granny.”
Throughout his life, Eddie dedicated himself to serving others through education. He worked as a coach, science teacher, and school administrator, touching the lives of countless students, athletes, colleagues, and families. His passion for helping others learn and succeed left a lasting impact on every community he served.
Eddie was larger than life in the very best way. He possessed a huge heart, a quick wit, and a sense of humor that could light up any room. His charisma was undeniable, and he had a unique ability to make people feel welcome, valued, and understood. Whether sharing a story, delivering a perfectly timed joke, or offering encouragement, Eddie had a gift for connecting with people.
Music was one of Eddie’s greatest loves. He could pick up almost any instrument and play it with remarkable talent. He found joy in making music and sharing it with others. Though he always aspired to be a singer—and would be the first to joke that he never quite made it—his enthusiasm and love for music were contagious and brought smiles to those around him.
Above all, Eddie cherished his family. He is survived by his son, Don Allen Martin and wife Haley and granddaughter, Vera Jean Martin; sister, Donna Jean Fields; niece, Beth Phillips and husband, Adam, and their sons Fynn, Nolan, Graham, and Bear Phillips; nephew, Bryan Fields and wife Erin, and their children Owen, Eden, Dawson, and Hudson.
Preceded in death by his parents, Don Alton Martin and Vera Darlene Hamner, and his nephew, Brad Fields.
Eddie’s legacy is one of laughter, compassion, service, and love. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a profound impact on the people whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
“To know Eddie was to love him.” His spirit, humor, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
