Edwin Charles Herbert, 86 of Spiro, Oklahoma passed in his sleep at his home on December 1, 2021. He was born on May 16, 1935 in Kingman, Arizona.
Edwin met his young bride Bernice Ann Dailey who was from Chloride, Arizona and they married on March 3, 1956 in Boulder City, Nevada at St Christopher’s Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by his Parents-Edwin and Elsie Herbert, Sister-Eloise ‘Smokey’ Hull, Granddaughter Baby Girl Gaines, and Grandson Julian M Herbert.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Bernice Herbert (Spiro, Oklahoma), Five Children: Dealia Duncan (Spiro, Oklahoma); Melissa Johnson Bolster (husband Gary- Boulder City, Nevada); Amanda Butler (Fort Smith, Arkansas); Edwin C Herbert (Fort Smith, Arkansas); and Penelope Van Muyden (Spiro, Oklahoma), Grandchildren: Step grandchildren Leslie Freebairn, Lou Ann Grier, and Bradford Duncan; Ronald W Johnson III; Jacob and Jason Williamson, step grandsons Jason, Scott, and Steven Blondeaux; EC Herbert, step granddaughters Amanda Santos and Stephanie Douglas; Sarah Barber and Anne Louise Howerton; and 20 great grandchildren.
Major Edwin Herbert was a Retired, USAF-Navigator B52 and C130…last C130 crew out of South Korea in 1974. He was an Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO) and an Instructor, Launch Control Officer when he retired. After retiring, he was a Senior Logistics Planning Coordinator for Department of Defense and Department of Energy. He was a Commissioned Officer in the United States Air Force-Strategic Air Command from 1958-1978.
Hobbies and Community Involvement included; Active Bridge player, also a member of ABA, Active member of the American Rose Society-Las Vegas Chapter, Volunteer for the Adult Literacy teaching adults to read. In his younger years, he was a member of American Magic Association, graduated from University of New Mexico, alumnus Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE fraternity). He was in Naval Reserve in high school at Boulder City High School and in college he joined ROTC-AF. Attended grades 1 through 12 in Boulder City, Nevada and in the graduating class of 1953 at Boulder City High School.
Memorial Services for Edwin will be at 2:00pm on Friday, December 10, 2021 at the United States National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas with Pastor Joseph Bottoms officiating. There will be a procession from Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Spiro Oklahoma to the Fort Smith National Cemetery.
