Funeral services for Eugene “Red” Earls, 93 of Shady Point, Oklahoma will be at 11:00am Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Grace Memorial Chapel in Poteau, Oklahoma with Mister Dennis Covey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00pm at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas under the direction of Grace Funeral Service of Poteau, Oklahoma. Viewing will begin at 8:30am until service time on Thursday at the funeral home chapel.
Eugene Carolos Earls was born on May 30, 1930 in Glendale, Oklahoma to Dora (Harris) and Raymond Earls and passed away on August 13, 2023 in Spiro, Oklahoma. Red was married to Judy (Bloxham) on June 28, 1954 in Poteau, Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents; step-mom, Azalia Earls; three daughters; Marilynn, Carolynn, and Sherlynn Earls; and one sister, Charlene Earls.
Red was a member of the Poteau DAV and a Corporal with the U.S. Army Medical Services. He also spent many years as a TV and radio repairman. He was known for his love of music, being an avid hunter and piddling. He lived for his time up on the mountain. He never met a stranger and had a nickname for everyone. Before his health declined, you could find him at “school” every morning sipping coffee and at every singing around town. He bragged on his children and grandchildren every chance he got.
Survivors include the love of his life of 69 years, Judy Earls; daughters, Holly Meier and Vickie Miller; grandchildren, Dennis Covey, Jr. (Carrie), David McGehee (Grant), Angela Hettinger, Kacy Odom (Wes), Jodi Butler (Joshua), and Betsy Meier (Jerrett); great grandchildren, Seth, Tyson, Taylor and Trevyr Covey, Breelyn and Brendan Hettinger, Kross Odom, Jesson and Janton Dale Butler, Archie and Atlas Meier-Demory; sister, Bobbie Matherly; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be David Colwell, Jerry Hopkins, Jr., Elvis Poor, Vonnie Miller, Richard Hettinger, and Roger Heiss. Honorary Pallbearer will be August Monks. You may leave an online message at www.gracemanorfh.com
