Fred “J.R.” Smallwood, Jr. of Heavener, Oklahoma was born April 14, 1941 in Roswell, New Mexico to Fred Smallwood, Sr. and Velma (Ford) Smallwood and passed away August 16, 2019 in Poteau, Oklahoma at the age of 78.
He is survived by:

Michael Smallwood of Tulsa, Oklahoma
Three sisters:
Nellie Watts of Heavener, Oklahoma
Mary Taylor of Howe, Oklahoma
Barbara Collins of Heavener, Oklahoma
Four brothers:
Carroll Smallwood
Jesse Smallwood
Paul Smallwood all three of Heavener, Oklahoma
Clarence Smallwood of Howe, Oklahoma
Four grandchildren:
Fred Baker, Steven Baker, Christopher Smallwood, and Shawn Smallwood
Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doreen; one sister, Martha Kay Smallwood; two brothers, Edward Smallwood and Jimmy Louis Smallwood; and a nephew, David Smallwood.
J.R. was a life-long resident of the area and a retired timber and rock worker. He loved to hunt, fish, and sit on his front porch.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2019 Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Lance Yandell officiating.
Interment will follow in Hontubby Cemetery under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers will be Carroll Smallwood, Scott Markward, C.J. Watts, Keith Smallwood, Justin Brown, and Caleb Brown.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jesse Smallwood, Clarence Smallwood, Paul Smallwood, Nellie Watts, Mary Taylor, and Barbara Collins.
Viewing will be from noon until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, with the family visiting with friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
