George “Barney” Bernard Shaw, a devoted husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home on February 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 8, 1939, George lived a life rich in love, laughter, and hard work. For 64 years, he was the beloved husband of Margaret Coline Green, their love story began in the fall of 1960 and blossomed into marriage on January 7, 1961. Together, they built a beautiful life and made Wister, Oklahoma their home, where they raised their seven cherished daughters.
George was a man of service and dedication. He proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard 180th Infantry. Later, he honed his skills as a typesetter, working for the Tulsa World and Tribune, as well as various other Oklahoma newspapers. He possessed a keen eye for detail and a strong work ethic, traits that served him well throughout his career. At the age of 40 George decided to return to college to complete his teaching degree. He taught for 15 years lovingly serving the students and community of Red Oak Public School.
Beyond his professional life, George was a man of many passions. He found joy in the simple things, whether it was tinkering with small engines, nurturing his garden, or embarking on various building projects. He had a curious mind and a knack for creating and fixing things. His hands were rarely still, always engaged in some project or another. He was also a published author.
But above all else, George will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family. His seven daughters were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was a constant source of support, guidance, and unconditional love. His love for his siblings was also apparent. He shared a closeness with each of them. He had a deep love for their families as well. An outward expression of his faith and commitment to the Lord, was demonstrated the summer of 1978 with two of his daughters, Angie and Eva, when he was baptized along with them in Kennedy Creek. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Heaven just got a lot more beautiful.
