Georgetta M. Newby, passed away on September 7, 2025, in Fort Smith, AR at the age of 76. Georgetta was born on October 24, 1948, in Gilmore, Oklahoma to her parents George and Gussie (Callaway) Moore.
At the young age of 6 years old, Georgetta started attending First Assembly of God Church of Poteau, which at that time was under the direction of Pastor Boyd. This ultimately led to her love and lifelong commitment to God. Georgetta was a graduate of Poteau High School Class of 1966. She went on to marry the love of her life, Gary Newby, and a few years later they welcomed their daughter Rosalind. Georgetta was a faithful member and was involved in children’s ministry for over 15 years and also pastored Sunday school for over 20 years, as well. She also served as both, church treasurer and the pastors personal secretary for many years, before retiring. Georgetta had a love and passion for quilting as well. Georgetta was a faithful servant and will be truly missed by her family, her church family, and all that knew her.

Georgetta is survived by her husband of 58 years and 11 months, Gary of the home; her daughter, Rosalind Newby of Poteau, Oklahoma; and her beloved Covenant Church family along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Life Services will be 11 am – Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the Covenant Church with Brother Keith Williams and Sister Shirley Yandell officiating. Burial will be at Vaughn Cemetery in Gilmore, Oklahoma. The Family of Georgetta Newby will greet friends at the conclusion of her service at Covenant Church.
