Herman “Ray” Heavener of the Conser Community was born December 13, 1931 in Conser, Oklahoma to Joseph and Ora (Milligan) Heavener and passed away October 29, 2018 in Fort Smith, Arkansas at the age of 86.

He is survived by:

His wife of 65 years:
Phyllis Heavener of the home.

One daughter:
Susan Elizabeth King of Hontubby, Oklahoma

One son:
Joe Heavener and wife Angie of Heavener, Oklahoma

One sister:
Doris Jean John of Modesto, California

Two brothers:
Dave Heavener of Conser, Oklahoma
Leroy Heavener and wife Mary of Howe, Oklahoma

Seven grandchildren:
Arlo Bruesch, Rachel Morton and husband Jack, Jesse Bruesch and wife Stevie, Jolie Kannady and husband Clayton, Walker LeMay and wife Maddie, Erika LeMay, and Joey Heavener

Eight great-grandchildren:
Rhiannon and Lillith Morton, Arlis Bruesch, Eden Bruesch, Eloise Bruesch, Jekobi Bruesch, Skylar Watkins, and Rylee Kannady

Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of many friends


He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, Lavon Shearer, Jaunita McClain, Gearldean Thrift, Freda Welton, Zelma Johns, and Oleta Shearer; and two infant brothers.


Ray was a life-long resident of the Conser Community and a member of the Perry Chapel Baptist Church.


Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served his country during the Korean Conflict from June, 1949 to October, 1952. After his time in the service, he attended barber school in Seattle, Washington in 1961. In 1970, he moved back to Heavener, Oklahoma in which the town was named after his grandparents.


He was a barber for 22 years and retired from the City Barber Shop. Ray was a member of the Heavener Masonic Lodge #154.He loved to squirrel and coon hunt, spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle, cousin, and friend. Ray will be dearly missed by many whom loved and knew him.


Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 2, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Heavener, Oklahoma with Brother Sam Dyer and Mr. Leroy Heavener officiating.


Burial will follow in Reichert Cemetery with Masonic Rights by Heavener Masonic Lodge #154 under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener, Oklahoma.


Pallbearers will be: Roy Culley, Ronnie Barron, Jack Morton, Roy Gene Heavener, Bruce McClain, and Terry Ray.


Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dick Roberts, Gillian Dean Robinson, Homer Marrow, and Ron Calhoun.


In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to a charity of your choice in honor of Ray.


Viewing will be from 8:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
