Jack Been, 86, of Pocola, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Jack lived a life full of love, hard work, and cherished moments with family.

A funeral service to honor Jack’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Chapel of Memories in Pocola, Oklahoma, with Pastor Kyle Been officiating. He will be laid to rest at Macedonia Cemetery in Pocola, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
A public viewing and visitation will be held Monday, April 14, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jack was born on August 19, 1938, in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, to Kathryn Elizabeth (Coker) Been and Jerry Ellis Been. He married the love of his life, Virginia Ruth Gray, on December 14, 1957, in Pocola, Oklahoma. Together, they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage.
Jack was a true outdoorsman who found joy in gardening, hunting, and whittling. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and a deep love for Jesus. Jack knew exactly where he would be spending eternity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn and Jerry; his brothers, Billy Ray Been and Jerry Dale Been; and his sister, Genelle Rutledge.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia “Ginny” Been; his sons, Mark Been and wife Jodie, Douglas Been and wife Kim, and Jeff Been and wife Danette; and his grandchildren, Cristin Winters (John), Deanna Binz (Derrick), Magen Lowder (Justin), Evan Been (Kendra), Molly Kate Been (Joe Jamison), Kyle Been (Kristin), Lasea Allen (Heath), Stacia Biernacki (Jacob), and Ky Butler (Tyler). He is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law James Ward and Stan Gray, and many other cherished relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Justin Lowder, Lane Lowder, Evan Been, Derrick Binz, Weston Winters, Jacob Biernacki, Tyler Butler, and Heath Allen.
Jack’s life was a blessing to all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
