Funeral Service for James Edward Mize, 80 of Longtown, Oklahoma will be at 11:00am on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Spiro, Oklahoma with Brother Bill Rea officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro, Oklahoma under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Spiro, Oklahoma. Viewing will be Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 12pm – 7pm at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Josh Mantooth, Jacob Mantooth, Landon Farmer, Danny Lovejoy, Jimmy Scrivner, and Dennis Hope.
James was born on January 8, 1944 in Dog Creek, Oklahoma to Hazel Lorene (Slone) Mize and Chester Ray Mize and passed away on May 14, 2024 in Stigler, Oklahoma. He was married to Caroline Sue Wood on December 15, 1984 in Panama, Oklahoma. James was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Colton Jay Mize, great grandson, Colton William Farmer, sister, Norma Jean Kuecken and brother, O.W. Mize. He was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Eufaula, Oklahoma. James enjoyed watching westerns, working in his shop, tinkering with lawnmowers, serving in his church, playing the domino game train, camping and watching the grand and great grandchildren. He loved woodworking and using his hands, he was a jack of all trades. His grandchildren would say “Papa fix it, Papa can fix anything.”
Survivors include his wife, of 40 years, Caroline Sue Mize; daughter, Crystal Mantooth and husband Josh; son, Douglas Mize; bonus daughter, Michelle Wallace and husband Tony; bonus son, Daniel Lovejoy and wife Kristie; grandchildren, Katie Jo Farmer and husband Landon, Jacob Mantooth, Brittney Athey and husband Edgar, Nathan Lovejoy and wife Midajah, Madison Lovejoy, TJ Wallace, Steven Wallace; bonus granddaughter, Serenity Jones; great grandchildren, River Lovejoy and Creek Lovejoy, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones.
