Funeral Service for James Gilby, 77 of Pocola, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Haven Heights Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas with Steve Young officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Pocola, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Pocola, Oklahoma.
James was born on January 9, 1946 in Salem, Illinois to Dorothy Virginia (Powell) Gilby and John Wallice Gilby and passed away on February 3, 2023 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna Gilby; James worked for Halliburton for several years before retiring, he loved his family, and was a active member of Haven Heights Baptist Church. He enjoyed making things such as clocks, and necklaces. He loved fishing, hunting, and spending time with this sons. He had an ornery side, and loved picking on his great grandchildren.
Survivors include his sons, James W Gilby and wife Lacinda L of Quitman, Arkansas, Mark A Gilby of Cedarville, Arkansas; brother, John C Gilby and wife Barbara of Velma, Oklahoma, Richard (Dick) Gilby and wife Judy of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Kailee Gilby and Devon Romick of Van Buren, Arkansas, Dakota Gilby and Olivia Shelley of Osceola, Missouri, Linsey Duggan of Quitman, Arkansas, Damion Zaste and Amber of Quitman, Arkansas; great grandchildren, Kashton and Oakley Romick, Joseph and Brynnleigh Gilby, Trenton, Trinity, and Hope Zaste, Mika and Willow Duggan, Dawson and Harper Shelley;
Pallbearers will be Dennis Brambl, Keith Willet, Dustin Wilet,Damion Zaste, Dakota Gilby, Devon Romick, John Gilby, and Kelly Gilby.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Pocola, Oklahoma.
