James Malvin Newman, 96, of Pocola, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in his home.


He was a retired electrician, IBEW Local 700 and a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II.


He is survived by two sons, Gary Newman of Muldrow and Tony Newman and wife, Mary of Pocola; one sister, Wanda F. Peck of Poteau; eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Newman; one daughter, Paula Holt; one brother, Joe Newman and two sisters, Oweta Carroll and Mabel Woods.


Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Monday, February 22 at Monroe First Baptist Church with burial at Monroe Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
