James Thomas Oakes was born on September 13, 1960 in Loma Linda, California to Marjorie Nell (Carpenter) Oakes and Jesse Waymon Oakes and passed away on December 28, 2020 in Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 60.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  

James or “Cornfed” as many knew him was in the fencing business for almost 40 years having owned Oakes Fencing Company, working in several states including, California, Ohio, Michigan, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. He retired from Ace Fence Company and he enjoyed cooking but smoking and barbecuing were his specialty.  James and his wife Karen were the loves of each other’s lives, he was the best husband, father, and grandfather and made his family happy giving them the greatest life possible.  His proudest moments in life are when his grandchildren called him “Papa”, he will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him. 

Survivors include his wife, Karen Oakes; daughters, Shady Oakes, Melissa Oakes; sons, David Oakes, Jesse Oakes; sisters Linda Goldsmith, Nancy Harlow, Doris Robinson, Diane Stafford, Susan Flores; brother, David Oakes; grandchildren, Bentley James “Clyde”, Ryder, Lukas, Jeremiah, Vanessa, James, Joey, Oslin, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones.

Private family services for James Thomas Oakes will be held at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Spiro.
