Jan was a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord. She was married to James “Jim” Wood, with whom she shared a life of love, service, and dedication to their family and community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. Reese and Rozelle; and her brother, Jerry Reese.
Jan is survived by her beloved husband, Jim Wood; her children, Jill Garcia and husband Lu, Jamey Wood and wife Sabrina, and Julie Wood; her cherished grandchildren, Jaybree Wood, Logan Wood, Joy Simms and husband Josh, and Luisa Breazeale and husband Brandon; her sister, Linda Hicks; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, loved ones, and friends.
A devout member of the Poteau Church of Christ, Jan lived a life of tireless service to others and to the Lord. She was a Sunday school teacher, Joy Bus coordinator, church camp counselor, youth ministry sponsor, and faithfully delivered meals to countless sick and homebound individuals in her community. Her love for ministry and compassion for others touched generations. Her life was rooted in a deep desire to serve the Lord and those around her.
Jan had a love for travel, even flying from airport to airport. She was an excellent homemaker, and an accomplished seamstress. She and Jim opened their hearts and home as foster parents to more than a dozen children, in addition to raising their own. She was a selfless, nurturing mother and a superior grandmother who delighted in caring for her family.
A Celebration of Life for Jan Susan Wood will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the Poteau Church of Christ in Poteau, Oklahoma, with Paul Fletcher officiating under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
