Jane Ann Spangler-Peters

A Celebration of Life for Jane Ann Spangler-Peters, 66, of Poteau, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, Oklahoma, with Reverend Taylor Pollard officiating. Cremation is under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.

Jane was born on April 18, 1960, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and passed away on August 24, 2026, in Poteau, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Carole Gordon, and her husband, Randy Peters.

For 26 years, Jane worked for Poteau Public Schools, where she was affectionately known as the “mean” secretary—a title that suited her quick wit, honesty, and unforgettable sense of humor. Those who knew Jane knew that beneath that title was a woman with a big heart who loved fiercely and was loyal to those she held dear.

Jane found happiness in the simple things. She took great pride in caring for her beautiful flower beds and loved sitting on her back porch with a cup of coffee. She had a special way with animals and was often like Cinderella, surrounded by the wild animals that found their way to her back porch.

Jane was funny, witty, strong-willed, and often honest to a fault. You never had to wonder what she was thinking, and those who loved her wouldn’t have had it any other way. When Jane loved someone, she loved them with her whole heart.

Throughout her life, Jane was faced with many obstacles, and she met each one head-on. She never cowered in the face of hardship or questioned God. No matter what life placed in her path, Jane held her head high and continued forward with strength, courage, and determination. She showed those around her what it meant to stand strong even during life’s hardest moments. Her strength and resilience will live on through her daughters, Jessica and Whitney, who will carry those qualities with them throughout their lives.

Above everything else, Jane’s daughters and grandchildren were the jewels in her crown and the greatest joys of her life. Her love for them knew no bounds, and nothing meant more to Jane than her family.

Jane is survived by her daughters, Jessica Gray, and Whitney Lewis and husband, Matt; grandchildren, Mya Gray and Axton Gray; special children, Misty and Daniel Upton; stepson, Dusty Peters; her special dog and faithful companion, Tink Tink; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Jane leaves behind a lifetime of laughter, honesty, strength, loyalty, and love. Her quick wit, fierce love for her family, unwavering strength, and one-of-a-kind personality will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
