Funeral Service for Jerry Lee Inman, 74 of Panama, Oklahoma will be at 11:00am on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Solid Rock Church in Panama, Oklahoma with Pastor Derick Glasco, officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas under the direction of Grace Funeral Service of Poteau, Oklahoma.
Jerry passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at his home. He was born September 12, 1948, in Nowata, Oklahoma, to Phinis Ray Inman and Bonna Jean Tatum Inman. He attended School in Oglesby until the 8th grade and graduated from Ramona High School in 1966. Jerry married
Sharon Kay Fout on February 27, 1971. They lived Broken Arrow, Oklahoma until moving to the Spiro area in the mid 1980’s. They had one child, Mitchell Lee Inman of Spiro, Oklahoma. Sharon preceded him in death in 2008. Jerry married Rhonda Shettleworth on June 26, 2010 in at their home in Panama, Oklahoma.
Jerry was drafted into the United States Army in April of 1968 and completed his basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana and was deployed to Vietnam where he served from August 1968 until he was critically wounded on March 16, 1969 in the Mekong Delta area when a booby trap detonated. After recovering for over a year in hospitals in both Japan and Texas he was honorably discharged from the Army in December of 1970 with the rank of Sergeant E5. During his time in Vietnam Jerry served with the Ninth Infantry Division as a grenadier with the divisions Fourth Battalion, 47th Infantry which was part of the joint Army-Navy Mobile Riverine Force. Upon his discharge from the Army Jerry received many
commendations including the Purple Heart, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Rifle (M-16), Expert Rifle (M-14) and the Good Conduct Medal. After Jerry’s service in the Army he enjoyed fishing and hunting with Mitchell and his brothers-in-law. Jerry also enjoyed spending time with his wife, Rhonda, and their grandchildren and going on trips to zoos and museums, eating crawfish, and attending Solid Rock Church in Panama, Oklahoma.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald Ray Inman, and wife Sharon Kay Inman. Jerry is survived by his wife, Rhonda Inman; son Mitchell Inman (Susan); step-son Cory Shettleworth (Aubree); Sister Sandra Cheek (Roger) and grandchildren Tatum Shettleworth, Benzly Taulbee, and Creed Shettleworth.
