Joe P. Turner of Howe, Oklahoma was born September 17, 1939 in Monroe, Oklahoma to William Edgar and Emma Grace (Brown) Turner and passed away on May 20, 2022 in Howe, Oklahoma at the age of 82.

Ronald D. Turner and wife Teresa of Oronogo, Missouri

Steve A. Turner of Howe, Oklahoma

Three grandchildren:

Jennifer and Josh Short of Asbury, Missouri

Jamie and Collin Howard of Lee’s Summit, Missouri

Abbyjo Kay Turner of Howe, Oklahoma

Four great-grandchildren:

Justus Short, Jacob Short, Hudson Howard, and Harper Howard

One brother-in-law:

Clarence Haney

Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Edgar and Grace Turner; brother, W.E. “Bill” Turner, Jr.; two sisters, Hazil Evans and DeLoss Turner.

Joe was a life-long resident of area and a member of the Springhill Baptist Church. In his younger years, Joe rode horses, worked 12 years for Glen Key Ranch as a foreman, and also worked as a tractor mechanic for Riley Smith for several years. During all that time he was a rancher. Joe retired as a Security Guard for Jim Hamilton Correctional Facility after 21 years. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also loved hunting, fishing, and ranching. He was a veteran, where he served his country for 14 years in the Army National Guard.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the Springhill Baptist Church with Mr. Rick Snyder and Brother Larry Stacy officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery in Monroe, Oklahoma under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener, Oklahoma.

Pallbearers will be: G.W. Evans, Ronnie Benifield, Paton Evans, Tre Evans, Jack Baker, and Don Barnes.

Honorary Pallbearer will be: John Wilson and Roy Culley.

Viewing will be from Noon until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday and 9:00 a.m. until Noon, Thursday. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
