Johnnie Johnson, Jr. was born January 4th, 1934 in Braden, Oklahoma, to his loving parents Johnnie and Brazola (Gaye) Johnson. He was one of ten children. Johnnie attended school in Fort Coffee, OK.

As a young man growing up he often enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was active in playing baseball and when he became older, he managed a team in Fort Coffee. Johnnie met the love of his life Elsie Mae (Brown) Johnson and they were married in 1955. From this union ten children were born (six girls and four boys). As Johnnie’s children grew he was very proud of them and would have bible study every Saturday night prior to Sunday school, the next morning. Joking around, he would sometimes pretend to discipline them by placing them in alphabetical order! For more 50 years he was a member of Mount Triumph Baptist Church in Spiro, OK. He was a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and a Treasurer. He spent countless hours making sure everything in the church was prepared for Sunday Services, including cutting the grass of the church’s cemetery with his sons. One of his favorite Bible scripture was Psalm 23. In his busy schedule he always made time to help the elderly and shut-in’s with errands and other necessities.

Johnnie was a hard worker and worked many jobs throughout his life to care for his family. His last employment was with Rheem Manufacturing in Fort Smith for over 25 years. His favorite past time was studying the Bible. He also loved to eat, sleep, chewing tobacco and watching “The Young & The Restless“. He would sometimes take credit for his wife’s good cooking, calling it his own. He enjoyed working on cars along with his older brother Earnest. He was a collector of all kinds of gadgets… and even owned a butter churn that he never used.

He was very humorous, always had a smile and something nice to say to people. He was selfless; he would give his last dollar to help someone, before he thought of himself. When he was sick, he never lost his sense of humor.

Johnnie went home to be with the Lord on September 18, 2018. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving children Warren (Patricia) Johnson, Beverly Joyce (Ronnie) Johnson, Calvin (Minnie) Johnson, Teresa Johnson-Ayers, Harold (Audrey) Johnson, Carolyn Johnson, Mary Johnson, Alvin Johnson and Virginia Renay Johnson-Brooks. Brothers Ernest Johnson, Charles (Bobby) Johnson, Thurman Johnson, Dallas (Susie) Johnson and Doyle Johnson. Sisters Alice Johnson and Gladys (Leroy) Shoate, Twenty six Grandchildren, Thirty Great Grandchildren and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Brazola Johnson, Daughter Doris Ann Johnson, Sisters Beatrice Chandler and Bessie Manley. Johnnie will be missed by all who knew him.

Burial will be in the Ft. Coffee Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro. Viewing hours will be Friday 9am-7pm.
