Leonard Daniel Thornburg was born March 27, 1950 in Talihina, Oklahoma to Hubert and Flora (Hickman) Thornburg, and passed from this life on October 13, 2020, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 70 years, 6 months, and 16 days.

Leonard was a Diesel Mechanic and Semi Truck Driver and loved his big rigs. He was still driving up until August of this year at which time he has to have shoulder surgery. In his spare time he and Kathy loved riding the ATV trails, the rougher the trail the better!! He enjoyed playing his guitar and spending time outdoors. He loved working and tinkering on the big rigs with his son Leon. Leonard was a kind hearted man by nature, a very quiet and reserved man, but could get his point across with no problems if need be.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Jo of the home; two sons, Leon Thornburg and wife Cheryl of Poteau, Oklahoma, Bobby Thornburg and wife Charissa of Katy, Oklahoma; two daughters, Kim Reames of El More City, Oklahoma, Jeanna Phipps and husband Kevin of Fort Smith, Arkansas; one step-daughter, Nikki Chitwood and husband Billy of Pocola, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, and a host of family, friends, and loved ones.

Leonard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and mentor he will be most definitely missed by all that loved and knew him.

Funeral Services will be 1:00pm, Saturday October 17, 2020 at Grace Memorial Chapel in Poteau, Oklahoma with Reverend Ira Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Ellis Chapel Cemetery in Wister, Oklahoma under the direction of Grace Funeral Service in Poteau, Oklahoma.

There will not be a viewing at the service, the family would like to greet friends from 5pm -7pm Friday, October 16, 2020 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Leon Thornburg, Jeremie Thornburg, M’Kayd Chitwood, Ethan Williams, Jared Wann, and Trevor Barnett.
