Mary Lou Callaway, 85, passed away on January 7, 2024, at Baptist Health in Fort Smith, Arkansas surrounded by her family. Mary was born on May 10, 1938, in Gilmore, OK to parents Arland and Martha (Milligan) Cooper. Mary was a strong woman of faith and a longtime member of Covenant Church. She worked in her younger years as a manager of C and H Market in New Cuyama, California. She loved to do embroidery and quilt in her free time, but her most favorite was time spent with grand and great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don Callaway, and her sister Maudena Walker.
Mary is survived by her sons Jeff Callaway and wife Jo Ellen of Poteau, Oklahoma, David Callaway of Poteau, Oklahoma, and Daryl Callaway and wife Delonna of Poteau, Oklahoma, her grandchildren Brent, Krista, Tara, Tiffany, Don, and Daryl Jr, her great grandchildren Huck, Maylee, Case, Tripp, and Brooks, her brothers Jimmy Cooper of Poteau, Oklahoma and Jackie Cooper of Poteau, Oklahoma, her sister Joanna Garrett and husband Donald Lee of Poteau, Oklahoma, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Life Services for Mary will be 2pm – Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Covenant Church 2101 S Broadway Street Poteau, Oklahoma with Pastor Keith Williams and Pastor Brent Callaway officiating and burial to follow at Vaughn Cemetery in Gilmore, Oklahoma. The family will meet and greet friends from 6pm – 8pm Tuesday January 9, 2024, at The Cedars on Dewey 520 Dewey Ave Poteau, Oklahoma. Casket bearers will be Brent Callaway, Don Callaway, Daryl Callaway, Justin Cooper, Huck Callaway, Josh Williams, and Aaron Williams.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Mary’s name to Compassion Building at Covenant Church 2101 S Broadway Street, Poteau, Oklahoma 74953.
