Mary Sue Dorey passed away peacefully on Monday, November 20, 2023, in Poteau, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years. Mary Sue was born in Panama, Oklahoma on February 25, 1932, to Dan and Mary (McNabb) Currens. The funeral will be held in Poteau at Evans & Miller Funeral Home in the chapel on Monday, November 27 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, Oklahoma after the service. Open visitation will be Sunday, November 26 from 1:00-4:00 PM.
Mary Sue lived most of her younger years in Panama, Oklahoma and was the daughter of a coal miner. Her family briefly moved to California during the depression. As a young adult, she worked for Southwestern Bell and spent a short period of time living in Houston, Texas. Mary Sue and Louis Dorey, her husband of over 65 years, met through a mutual friend while she was living in Panama, and he lived in Poteau. The couple spent 47 years living in El Reno where they raised their children. Later they moved back to Poteau. They loved caring for others. Mary Sue was a devoted mother to her children. Mary Sue and Louis spent much of their time caring for their daughter Kathryn.  
Mary Sue had an endless amount of energy, curiosity, and entrepreneurship, and she really enjoyed socializing and helping others. She developed a very successful real estate business and was a real estate broker for over 50 years. She sold many homes and loved finding new investment properties. Mary Sue had a generous, giving spirit. She loved dancing, playing bingo, and baking pies! She was known for her pecan and millionaire pie recipes. She also enjoyed watching her great-granddaughters dance—Norah tap dancing and Claire doing the twist/boogie. She was a Christian, strong in her faith.  Mary Sue and Louis loved Eastern Oklahoma. 
Mary Sue is preceded in death by her parents, husband Louis Dorey, daughter Kathyrn Dorey, and two brothers Dan Warren Currens and John Currens. She is survived by her son Louis and his spouse Susan, granddaughter Kellye and her spouse Oz, great-granddaughter Norah, granddaughter Laura and her spouse Greg, great-granddaughter Claire, her brother Kenneth Currens and extended family members.
Mary Sue was well known and loved by many people. She will be dearly missed.
