A proud graduate of Pocola High School, Class of 1988, Matt’s life was defined by his deep love of music. From his early days as a member of Ray Votaw’s Band of Indians to becoming a guitar virtuoso on stages across the region, his passion never wavered. Over the years, he played with numerous local and out-of-state bands, leaving his mark on every stage he touched. He was also known as “Matt Morrison” during his time as a local DJ for several radio stations, where he shared his love of music with countless listeners.
Matt was an accomplished songwriter, having written the songs featured on the CD of his last full band, The Smokin’ Crawdadz. His creative spirit was matched by his sharp mind, a devoted fan of Jeopardy!, Matt dreamed of one day appearing as a contestant on the show.
Matt is survived by his loving parents, Eddie and Martha Wilson of Pocola; his sister, Melanie Wilson; and his brother, Mark Wilson and wife Becky. He is also survived by his nephew, Bradley Wilson and wife Amanda; nieces, Candace Thomas and husband Colby, Brittany Grayson and husband Michael, and Jadah Gragg and husband Nathan. His legacy continues through his great-nieces Kalyn and Amelia Wilson, and great-nephews Dylan Wilson, Hudson Gragg, and Hunter Gragg.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Pocola, Oklahoma, with Kyle Jarnagin officiating. Services are under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Pocola, Oklahoma.
