Mattie Faye Odom was born on May 10, 1934 in Poteau, OK to Henry Archie & Callie Wiley Odom. On November 14, 2021 she received her complete and total healing when she was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior. Mattie attended Tarby School, Poteau High School, obtained her GED and continued her education at Carl Albert State College in Poteau, OK and Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK. Mattie was employed at Walt’s Steak House for 21 years; Black Angus Restaurant, Poteau Head Start and was the owner of Red Wagon Steak House for 29 years.

She gained strength with one of her favorite Bible verses, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”, Philippians 4:13. That verse helped her as she was a foster mother to 35 girls during her life. She was a faithful member of Calvary Assembly of God in Poteau.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter Julie Gardner; one sister Pauline Scott; one sister in law, Bonnie Odom; three brothers, James, Henry, & Leslie Odom.

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Faye Odom; five grandchildren, Desiree Marie Gardner, Destiny Faye Gardner, Madelyn Joy Odom, Landon Lee Studer, and Brooklyn Ann McDuffie; two sisters in law, Edna Odom and Rosa Lee Odom both of Poteau and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Jim Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.

Pallbearers will be Steve, David, Wayne, Charles and Stanley Odom.
