Funeral Service for Nancy Ethelta Murray Lawrence, 75 of Poteau, Oklahoma will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, Oklahoma with Reverend Phil McGehee officiating. Burial will follow at Vaughn Cemetery in Gilmore, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.

Ethelta was born on October 25, 1946 in Eagletown, Oklahoma to Thelma Mae (Walker) Warren and Homer Hobson Warren and passed away on February 26, 2022 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her dad, Homer Warren; mother, Thelma Blaylock; brothers, Steve Warren and Denzel Warren. Ethelta enjoyed giving away $100.00 bills to people in need. She enjoyed family, fishing, and playing volleyball. She played three or four nights a week until she was over 69 years old. She loved volleyball with friends and played for the past 20 years.

Ethelta, as a young wife and mother of two, began her work career as a driver for Head Start. One of the job benefits was nine hours of tuition at Carl Albert State College. Ethelta graduated from CASC and then commuted to Northeastern State College in Tahlequah. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Ethelta began her teaching career at Cameron School where she taught fourth grade for twenty eight years. During that time she completed her Masters Degree at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Ethelta was a lifetime member of the OK Education Association and served as OEA State and National Delegate in Oklahoma City, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Louisville, and New Orleans, as well as Leflore County President and Vice President.

Ethelta was also the founder and owner of Area Appraisals which she operated for approximately 20 years.

Survivors include her sons, Keith Murray and wife Mary, Bryan Murray; sisters, Francine Gregg and husband Jerry, Dru Waren and husband Dennis; brothers, Rex Blaylock and wife Cheryl, Randy Blaylock, Danny Blaylock, Dusty Blaylock; grandchildren, Trent Murray, Julie Newby, Tashera Haley; great grandchildren, Jace Newby, Kamree Newby, Dax Newby; special friends, Euphia Johnson, Joan Thompson and many other family members, friends, former students, and loved ones.

Pallbearers will be Brian Hammon, Trent Murray, Warren Waren, Jimmie Burden, Samuel Burden and Wayne Burden. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carl Powell, Andy Anderson, Bill Newman, and Frank Hyson.

Viewing and Visitation will be Friday, March 4, 2022 from 9:00 am - 8:00 pm with the family greeting friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
