Ramona believed in enjoying every moment life offered. She spent winters in Arizona, loved traveling, and treasured time at Lake Tenkiller. Lake Tahoe held a special place in her heart, as she often said it was the most beautiful place she had ever seen. She enjoyed shopping, festivals, dancing, especially waltzing, and staying active. A true social butterfly, she simply loved being around people and making memories.
She loved gathering around the table for board games and cards, especially Wahoo, and lived by the saying, “You catch more bees with honey.” Ramona was kind and warm, yet wonderfully candid, never afraid to say what she thought, usually with humor and a sparkle that made it part of her charm.
At 17, she married the love of her life, beginning a marriage that lasted 55 devoted years. Their story began when he drove the school bus and made her walk home for being ornery, only to tell her he would marry her one day. And he did. Together they built a life centered on love, laughter, and family.
Ramona was a proud and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was especially proud to see five generations of her family, a legacy that meant the world to her. Her adventurous spirit, loving heart, and vibrant personality made her a true light to everyone blessed to know and love her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, George Earl Thornburg; her son, Randy Earl Thornburg; her parents, Frank and Edna Aust; and her sisters, Eula Katherine Harris Steed and Gladys Stephens.
She is survived by her daughter, Gayle Bandy and husband Lee Roy Bandy of Poteau, Oklahoma, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who continue her loving five-generation legacy.
Her legacy is one of joy, connection, and making the most of every minute. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
The Celebration of Life Services for Ramona Thornburg were held privately by her family at Oakland Cemetery and burial followed.
