Richard Alfred Garrett, 79, of Poteau, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, in Poteau. He was born on January 30, 1946, in Summers Point, New Jersey, to Carrie (Adams) Garrett and Alfred Garrett.
Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he worked as a Military Police Officer. His time in the service remained one of the proudest parts of his life, and he carried his love for the Navy throughout the years.
Richard enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, casting a line while fishing, the excitement of a good bingo game, and the sounds of classic country music and westerns playing in the background. His kind spirit, sense of humor, and love for family and friends will be missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carrie and Alfred Garrett, and his son, Richard A. Garrett, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anita Garrett; his son, Jeff Garrett and wife Diverly; grandchildren Fiona Mapanao, Lykah Mapanao, Annie Garrett, and Jaira Garrett. He is also survived by his sisters Kathy Rosie, Barbara Bohs, and Marie Duble; brothers Ken Garrett, Greg Garrett, Bob Garrett, and Rob Garrett; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who loved him deeply.
A Celebration of Life for Richard will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, Oklahoma. Clyde Hess will be officiating, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
