Roghnee (Howze) Dowell Akin of Hodgen, Oklahoma was born May 31, 1923 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to George Washington and Jane Albion (Crawford) Howze and went home to be with the Lord on August 22, 2023 in Heavener, Oklahoma at the age of 100 years, 2 months, and 22 days.

Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends who loved her very much

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Virgil Dowell; her second husband Bill Akin; one sister Oletto Vinson; three brothers Earl, Leonard , and George Howze.

Roghnee was a long-time resident of the area and the oldest member of Hodgen First Baptist Church., where she served as the church clerk for 30 years. Roghnee worked at the LeFlore County Health Department for over 40 years, until she retired. She loved her Lord, cooking, providing for her family, and was always generous to everyone. Roghnee made many specialty cakes especially wedding cakes. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Roghnee was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the Hodgen First Baptist Church in Hodgen, Oklahoma with Reverend Jerry Wells and Brother John Paul McAlester officiating. Burial will follow in Hodgen Cemetery in Hodgen, Oklahoma under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener, Oklahoma.

Pallbearers will be: Bobby Bowman, Jr., Chad Ritter, Chris Dowell, Luke Toyebo, John W. Kelly, III, and Duncan McLean

Honorary pallbearers will be: Her great-grandsons

Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Thursday and 9:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., Friday.

The family will visit with friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
