Funeral Service for Ruth Lucial Morris, 78 of Heavener, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Evans Chapel Of Memories in Poteau, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Albion Cemetery on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
Ruth was born on March 16, 1945 in Higgins, Oklahoma to Mandy (Owensby) Way and Lester Battles and passed away on March 23, 2023 in Shady Point, Oklahoma. She grew up in the Hartshorne area and was a long-time resident of Albion and Heavener, Oklahoma. She married Johnny Morris on September 17, 1962. They shared over 55 years of marriage and had two daughters, Denise and Joann. She was a cafeteria cook at Talihina Public School for many years, but she was most well known for her sassy customer service at Bud’s Country Junction for 18 Years. She was hard-working and headstrong, as tough as they come. She was an exemplary matriarch, devoted to her family with love, kindness, and care that she will always be admired and remembered for. Ruth was a Christian that knew and loved the Lord. We know she is in our Heavenly home rejoicing in fellowship with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Morris; mother, Mandy Way; father, Les Battles; numerous siblings; and grandson-in-law, Nathan McLaughlin.
Survivors include daughter, Denise Carson of Shady Point, Oklahoma, Joann Nichols Rogers & husband Jeff of Texarkana, Arkansas; grandchildren, Bridget Nipp and husband Michael of Poteau, Oklahoma, Jessica McLaughlin and partner Timmy Murray of Panama, Oklahoma, John Dillon Carson and fiancé Amanda Sananikone of Hackett, Arkansas, Caitlin Carson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Bryson Nichols and partner Chelsey Cawley of Beebe, Arkansas, Joshua Nichols of Texarkana, Arkansas, Tayler Gurley and husband T.J. of New Boston, Texas, Lindsey Rogers of New Boston, Texas; great grandchildren, Kylee McLaughlin, Kadence McLaughlin, Kolton McLaughlin, Kennedy Murray, Michael Nipp II, Lucas Nipp, John Davy Carson, Jules Nichols, Silas Cawley-Nichols, Savannah Cawley-Herrin, brothers, Bill and Ramona Battles of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, Claude and Earleine Battles of Checotah, Oklahoma; sister, Clara Luker, of McAlester, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones.
Pallbearers will be Michael Nipp, Jeff Rogers, Bryson Nichols, John Dillon Carson, Josh Nichols, and Timmy Murray.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Claude Battles, Bill Battles, Michael Nipp II, Kolton McLaughlin, John Davy Carson, Lucas Nipp, and Silas Cawley-Nichols.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 4:00-6:00 PM at Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
