He was preceded in death by his father, Jack C. Mapes; his paternal grandparents, Cliff and Betty Mapes; his maternal grandparents, Benny and Ethelyn Matheny; a sister, Pam Mapes; a nephew, Watt Mapes; a uncle, Benny Matheny; and Joan and Jerry Mapes.
