Shon William Shankle, 83, of Poteau, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, in Pocola, Oklahoma.
Shon was born on January 20, 1943, in Hartford, Arkansas, to Leon Shankle and Mildred (Turner) Shankle. He was united in marriage to Frances Shankle, with whom he shared many years of life and family.
Shon was a devoted husband, a good father, and a proud “Pop” who worked hard to provide a good living for his family. He loved fishing and greatly enjoyed working with his cattle. He was a faithful member of Springhill Baptist Church. Shon retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after 32 years of dedicated service.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Frances Shankle; daughters, Ashlea Frasher and husband Jody of Monroe, Oklahoma, and Amber Willis of Wister, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Holly Willis; grandsons, Reid Frasher and wife Brittney, Rhett Frasher, and Shon Willis; great-granddaughter, Rayna Frasher; and sisters, Sherry Barnes, Mary Roberts, and Foye Jean Shankle.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Mildred Shankle, and his sister, Sydney Weaver.
Pallbearers will be Jody Frasher, Justin Hoopengarner, Shon Willis, Reid Frasher, Rhett Frasher, and Pete Cepeda.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, Oklahoma, with Larry Stacy officiating. Burial will follow at Monroe Cemetery in Monroe, Oklahoma, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home
