Burial will follow at Old Cache Cemetery in Cartersville, Oklahoma, under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Spiro, Oklahoma.

Dianne was born on January 31, 1950, in Cartersville, Oklahoma, to Verla Sue (Whittiker) Bailey and Jimmy James Bailey. She passed away on October 8, 2026, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She married Howard W. Melson on May 30, 1973, in Spiro, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on January 5, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Sue and J.J. Bailey.

Dianne was a woman full of life, love, and personality, and you never had to wonder when she was in the room! Known for being the loudest in the room, she had a spirited personality and a way of making her presence known wherever she went. She loved gardening and took great pride in her beautiful roses, which were a reflection of the care and attention she put into the things she loved. She also enjoyed crocheting and spending time doing the things that brought her happiness.

Dianne was a passionate sports fan, especially when it came to her beloved Oklahoma Sooners and Chicago Cubs. No matter what else was going on, there was almost always a game playing in the background. She loved cheering on her teams, and you could count on her to make her opinions known!

Above all else, Dianne treasured her family. Affectionately known as “Granny,” she absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy, and nothing made her happier than spending time with them. Whether she was cheering them on, sharing stories, or simply enjoying their company, her love for them was unmistakable. Granny wasn’t one to love quietly—she loved big, laughed loud, and made sure those closest to her knew just how much they meant to her. Her larger-than-life personality, familiar voice, and unconditional love will be deeply missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Catherine Walker and husband Scott; son, James Melson; grandchildren, James Tyler Melson, Daniel Walker, Colby Melson, Brooke Melson, and Makayla Melson; great-grandchildren, Emrys, J.C., and Elena; sisters, Peggy Starkey  Jackey Hunnicut and Jammie Barker and husband Tim; along with numerous other relatives, friends, and loved ones.

Dianne leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a family who loved her dearly, and a voice and spirit that will never be forgotten. Though her chair may now be empty, her love, laughter, and the memories she created will forever fill the hearts of those she leaves behind.
