Trudie Opal Mathies, 95, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018 in Ft. Smith, AR. Trudie was born February 27, 1923, in Hill, OK to Gene & Susie (Pate) Irvin.
She was a surgical tech at LeFlore County Hospital for over 25 years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Poteau.
Trudie had a servant’s heart until she died.
(She even tried to care for the people who shared her life at Memory Lane in Van Buren) She would drop everything to take care of her children and grandchildren when needed. She was a quilter and seamstress. Her family are the proud owners of her beautiful quilts. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Paul Mathies; sisters, Bea Pendley, Lorene Davis and Velma Collins.
Survivors include her son, Robert C. Thompson of Ft. Smith, AR; daughter, Nancy Fetzer of Yukon, OK; granddaughters & their husbands, Robin & Gary Gray of Poteau, OK, Trudi & William Lupton of Yukon, OK; grandsons, David Thompson of Poteau, OK, Chad & wife Tammy Fetzer of Lawton, OK, Chris Thompson & Franklin Sanchez of San Francisco, CA; great grandchildren, Tyler Nunley, Bryce Nunley, Kyle Vincent, Molly Vincent, Johnathan Fetzer, Drew Arslan, Brooklyn Cox, Allison Sanchez-Thompson, Jennifer, Abby, Joe Lupton and Josh Hileman; other relatives, loved ones and friends.
Services will be 10 am, Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with grandson, Dr. Chad Fetzer and Jim Cook officiating.
Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, OK.
