RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s 10th baseball weekly awards for the 2021 season. Arkansas-Monticello’s Jordan Johnson and Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Grant French shared Player of the Week; Henderson State’s Spencer Taack and Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Dakota Jones shared Pitcher of the Week.
GAC BASEBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jordan Johnson, Arkansas-Monticello, INF, Jr., Beaumont, Texas
In the Weevils three-game sweep of Southern Nazarene, Johnson went 10-for-12 with four home runs, 11 RBI and nine runs scored. In game one, he went 4-for-4 with three home runs and eight RBI. In game two, he doubled twice. In the finale, he again went 4-for-4, this time with two doubles and a home run. He finished with a 2.250 slugging percentage.
GAC BASEBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Grant French, Northwestern Oklahoma State, OF, Jr., Mesquite, Texas
French reached base 11 times in 12 plate appearances in games against East Central and Harding. He homered and tripled as part of a 3-for-3 effort against the Tigers. Against the Bisons, he went 3-for-3 with a stolen base on Saturday and 2-for-3 with two home runs on Sunday. He slugged 2.111 for the week.
GAC BASEBALL CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Spencer Taack, Henderson State, SP, Jr., Dallas, Texas
Taack picked up his second Pitcher of the Week award following a dominating effort against East Central. He won his fifth-straight decision as he faced only two batters of the minimum in the 11-0 victory. He allowed only one hit, a fourth-inning single, and struck out seven in the 93-pitch complete-game shutout.
GAC BASEBALL CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Dakota Jones, Southwestern Oklahoma State, RP, Jr., Joshua, Texas
Jones made two appearances and threw 5.2 innings of scoreless relief in picking up two wins. In the Bulldogs’ mid-week contest against Cameron, he came into a tie game and struck out six of the 11 batters he faced over 3.0 innings. On Saturday, he entered with the Bulldogs down a run and kept Arkansas Tech at bay by allowing only one base runner in a 2.2-inning stint.
