Press Release
NORMAN — University of Oklahoma head baseball coach Skip Johnson announced the Sooners’ 2021 schedule Friday, a 54-game slate highlighted by premier early-season tournaments and 28 home games at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
The Sooners open the season at home Feb. 19-21 against Southern. OU will play in the Round Rock Classic, Feb. 24-26, against Auburn, Texas A&M and Baylor, and compete in the Frisco Classic, March 4-7, against Arizona, Dallas Baptist and Missouri.
Of Oklahoma’s 24 opponents scheduled for the 2021 season, 17 registered at least 10 wins during the shortened 2020 season (no team nationally played more than 19 games; OU posted a 14-4 record). The Sooners will play a total of 26 games against 11 opponents that reached the NCAA postseason in 2019, with 12 of those contests at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The 2020 NCAA postseason was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With so much uncertainty around college athletics and the structure of the baseball season, it has been a challenge to put together a schedule of this quality,” Johnson said. “We are pleased with the outcome. We feel we have built a schedule that will challenge our team each time we go out and compete, particularly with the early events in Round Rock and Frisco, and into the Big 12 schedule, which should be as strong a league as it has ever been. We will be excited for every opportunity to play this season.”
The Big 12 Conference schedule runs 24 games over eight weekend series. The Sooners will play TCU, Kansas and Texas Tech at home, and will face Texas, Kansas State, West Virginia and Baylor on the road.
The Bedlam conference series is again scheduled to be played at campus sites this season (the series was scheduled to be played on campus in 2020). OU will host the final two contests of the Big 12 series on Saturday, May 1, and Sunday, May 2, at L. Dale Mitchell Park while the series opener will be played in Stillwater on Friday, April 30.
The Sooners and Cowboys will also play two non-conference midweek games. OSU will host in Stillwater on Tuesday, March 30 and OU will host a contest in Norman on Tuesday, May 11.
Following its season-opening series against Southern, Oklahoma will play nine straight games in Texas. The Sooners face Stephen F. Austin (Tuesday, Feb. 23) and UT Arlington (Wednesday, Feb. 24) at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, before competing at the Round Rock Classic at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas, and the Frisco Classic at Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas. UTA will visit Norman on Tuesday, March 9.
OU will face Arkansas State (March 12-14) and Houston (March 19-21) in a weekend series prior to the start of conference play. The Sooners will play a midweek contest at Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., on Tuesday, March 16, and at Texas State in San Marcos, Texas, on March 24.
Oklahoma opens Big 12 Conference play March 26-28 at Texas, before returning home for series against TCU (April 2-4) and Kansas (April 9-11). The Sooners then play at Kansas State (April 16-18) and host Georgia Southern in a non-conference weekend set (April 23-25).
Following the April 30-May 2 Bedlam series, Oklahoma plays at West Virginia (May 7-9) and hosts Texas Tech (May 14-16) before closing the regular season at Baylor (May 20-22).
OU and Texas Tech are scheduled to meet for a midweek non-conference game in Amarillo, Texas, on Tuesday, April 20. The Sooners will also face Oral Roberts (April 6) and Texas Southern (April 13-14) in midweek action.
The Big 12 Baseball Championship will be held May 26-30 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
OU officials are continuing to work closely with top medical experts to ensure they are making decisions that are in the best interest of student-athletes, stakeholders and the university. Full information about game day procedures for the 2021 season will be announced prior to the opening series.
