NORMAN — No. 17 Oklahoma dropped a midweek matchup to No. 15 Dallas Baptist Tuesday evening at L. Dale Mitchell Park, 6-0.
After a 4-0 road swing and playing six games in the last eight days, the Sooners (13-7, 6-0 Big 12) were shut out for the first time since 2022 on Tuesday. OU threw nine pitchers on the night, with none going more than 1.2 innings and only two giving up more than one hit. DBU (17-3) used a three-run ninth inning to put the contest away.
Following a scoreless first inning that saw OU starting RHP Jett Lodes strike out the side in his first career start, DBU put one run on the board in the second via solo home run.
In the third, OU threatened with a pair in scoring position after a single from freshman Jason Walk and double from senior Anthony Mackenzie.
The fourth inning saw the Patriots score a pair via home run to push the lead to three. The Sooners would put two on again in the bottom half of the inning, but couldn’t manufacture any runs.
Four scoreless innings ensued from the fifth through eighth. In the ninth, DBU added some insurance with three runs on three hits, a pair of walks and a hit by pitch.
The Sooners would record a pair of hits in the bottom half of the ninth, but a double play and popup ended any threat of a comeback.
Lodes (L, 0-1) took the loss, surrendering one run on one hit with three strikeouts, while six other Sooner pitchers recorded a strikeout, highlighted by a pair of K’s from junior RHP Ryan Lambert.
At the plate, Walk led OU with his first multi-hit game of the freshman’s young career, going 2-for-3. Three other Sooners registered hits.
The Sooners continue an eight-game homestand by hosting West Virginia this weekend, March 22-24. First pitches are set for 7 p.m., 4 p.m. and noon CT, respectively. Friday’s game will be televised nationally on FS1, while Saturday and Sunday can be seen via SoonerVision on ESPN+.
