NORMAN — No. 16 Oklahoma completed a three-game sweep of CSUN with a 3-2 win Sunday afternoon.
The Sooners rallied from a 2-0 deficit to score the final three runs of the game and remain unbeaten on the year. The 11-0 start is the best since a program-record 16-0 start to the 2011 season.
Starting left-handed pitcher Cameron Johnson went 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on three hits to go with four strikeouts and four walks. The lefty worked out of a bases-loaded jam at the top of the first and stranded a trio again in the fourth, limiting the inning’s damage to just one run for CSUN (2-7).
The Sooners broke up the shutout in the sixth after CSUN pushed another run across in the top half to take a two-run lead. After singles from sophomore Jaxon Willits and junior Easton Carmichael, redshirt sophomore Sam Christiansen lifted a sacrifice fly to center that allowed Willits to score from third.
Oklahoma took the lead in the bottom of the seventh. After junior Brayden Horton drew a leadoff walk, fellow junior Dawson Willis brought him home on an RBI double off the wall in center. Two batters later, junior Trey Gambill grounded into a fielder’s choice that allowed Willis to cross home for the go-ahead run.
After Johnson exited in the sixth, reliever Jason Bodin entered for an inning and two-thirds, allowing no runs on two hits with one strikeout. Senior closer Dylan Crooks collected his third save on the season, pitching the eighth and ninth for the Sooners and allowing no hits or runs with two walks and two strikeouts. The righty stranded the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position at the top of the ninth.
At the plate, sophomore Dasan Harris paced OU with a 2-for-3 day, while Christiansen, Willis and Gambill brought in OU’s three runs.
Oklahoma outscored the Matadors 22-4 on the weekend, with OU pitchers striking out 28 batters. The Sooners have yet to allow an opponent to score five-plus runs on the year, a program best through 11 games to start a season.
Up next, OU heads to Dallas to face No. 19 DBU (8-3) on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. CT. The game can be seen via ESPN+ and heard in Oklahoma on 99.3 FM/1400 AM The REF or nationwide on The Varsity Network app.
