RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the softball players of the week for the final week of the 2024 season. Ouachita Baptist’s Erin Williams and Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Emily Simmons shared Player of the Week while Oklahoma Baptist’s Kayleigh Jones won Pitcher of the Week.
#theGAC SOFTBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Erin Williams, C/DP, Ouachita Baptist, Sr., Stuttgart, Arkansas
Williams led the Tigers to five victories to cap their season. Five of her six hits went for extra bases. She drove in two with a triple in a sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. She collected two RBI in the series opener against Northwestern Oklahoma State. She hit a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the seventh of game two and followed up with two home runs in the finale.
#theGAC SOFTBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Emily Simmons, P/DP, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Fr., Houston, Texas
Simmons paced the Savage Storm to a series victory against Southern Arkansas. She went 4-for-7 with a pair of home runs and four RBI. She hit a solo home run in the opener and a three-run home run in game two. She added 13 strikeouts and a save in 9.1 innings inside the circle.
#theGAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Kayleigh Jones, RHP, Oklahoma Baptist, Sr., Claremore, Oklahoma
Jones picked up two wins and surrendered just one earned run across 12.1 innings of work. She struck out 11 in scoreless 5.1 innings on Friday. She followed up with a five-hit complete game on Saturday with seven more strikeouts. Jones, Division II’s active leader in strikeouts, reached the 1,000-strikeout milestone, on Friday. She owns an 11-0 record in her last 13 starts.
