RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the baseball players of the week for the sixth week of the 2024 season. Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Carson Wright and Oklahoma Baptist’s Troy Shields shared Player of the Week while Arkansas Tech’s Emiliano Mata claimed Pitcher of the Week.

#theGAC BASEBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Carson Wright, LF, Northwestern Oklahoma State, Jr., Bellevue, NebraskaWright hit .500 with eight hits as the Rangers picked up three wins. Against Newman, he opened the scoring with a solo home run. Against Southern Nazarene, collected two hits, two walks and three RBI in game one. In game two, he singled and stole a base. In helping the Rangers complete the sweep, he went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and four RBI.

#theGAC BASEBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Troy Shields, C/DH, Oklahoma Baptist, Jr., El Dorado Hills, CaliforniaShields drove in nine runs in the Bison’s five games last week and slugged .933. He went 2-for-4 in a doubleheader split with Central Oklahoma. He registered three-straight two-hit games against Southeastern Oklahoma State. He drove in three runs in the opening game. He homered and scored twice in game two. He homered, drove in four and scored three times in the finale.

#theGAC BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Emiliano Mata, SP, Arkansas Tech, Jr., Douglas, ArizonaMata became the second-straight Wonder Boy tabbed as Pitcher of the Week after he threw 6.1 scoreless innings against Ouachita Baptist on Sunday. He limited the Tiger offense to just two hits and he issued just two walks. He struck out six as he picked up his first victory of the season.
