RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – With the 2024 baseball regular seasons complete, the league announced the bracket and schedule for the GAC Baseball Championships. The eight-team, two-weekend event begins Friday with four best-of-three series hosted on campus at the sites of the top four seeds. The advancing teams will head to Dickey-Stephens Ballpark in North Little Rock for a double-elimination tournament.
For the first time since 2019, Arkansas-Monticello captured the top seed. The Weevils won 10 of their last 12 GAC games, including a last-at-bat victory in their regular-season finale against rival Southern Arkansas to garner a share of the GAC regular-season title. They face Oklahoma Baptist, the runners up at last year’s GAC Championships. The Weevils won two of three, at home, against the Bison in mid-March.
Arkansas Tech’s victory at Harding in its regular-season finale secured the No. 2 seed for the Wonder Boys, in addition to a share of the league’s regular-season title. They draw Ouachita Baptist in the best-of-three series. Tech claimed the regular-season series thanks to a pair of shutouts. The Wonder Boys boast a 19-2 home record, the best mark amongst the four hosting teams.
Harding’s series victory with Arkansas Tech resulted in a three-way tie atop the standings as well as the program’s first GAC regular-season title. The third-seeded Bisons host Northwestern Oklahoma State, who qualified for the GAC Championships for the first time since 2021. Harding earned a 2-1 series victory against the Rangers in late March.
By virtue of two wins on Saturday against rival Ouachita Baptist, Henderson State clinched the No. 4 seed. Two-time GAC champion Southern Arkansas awaits. The Reddies took two of three from the Muleriders in Magnolia.
