Press Release

NORMAN – Oklahoma redshirt senior golfers Jonathan Brightwell and Quade Cummins were named to the final fall Haskins Award watch list, the Haskins Commission announced on Monday.

The Haskins Award presented by Stifel is awarded annually to the nation's top collegiate golfer. Known as the "Heisman of Golf", the Haskins Award is named in honor of Fred Haskins, who dedicated his career as head professional at the Country Club of Columbus to teaching junior golfers the art of competitive golf.

Brightwell makes his return to the watch list after his All-American season at UNC-Greensboro in 2019-20. The Sooners' redshirt-senior has been a force for head coach Ryan Hybl's team this fall, collecting a trio of top-15 finishes and top-10 placements at Maridoe and East Lake. The Charlotte, N.C., product is ranked No. 6 in the country by Golfweek and has match play wins over five top-50 players this fall.

Cummins is no stranger to the Haskins watch list as the two-time All-American honoree has found himself in contention for the prestigious award for over two years. The Weatherford, Okla., native owns three top-10 finishes this fall, finishing as runner-up twice. Cummins is ranked No. 2 per Golfweek and No. 9 in the PGA Tour U rankings heading into the spring season where he'll look to lead the Sooners to their third national championship.

"Quade and Jonathan being on the Haskins Award watch list doesn't surprise me because they're proven players that have had a nice fall and will continue to thrive in the spring," Hybl said. "Both of them will be amongst the best in college golf by the end of the year."

The duo, alongside four other golfers ranked inside Golfweek's top 30, has the top-ranked Sooners in position to compete for an NCAA championship later in the spring of 2021. Oklahoma won at the Big 12 Preview event at Colonial to open the fall and grabbed back-to-back third-place finishes at Maridoe and the Big 12 Match Play championship before running away with the stroke-play title at East Lake and finishing runner-up in the match-play portion. Hybl's team has 17 top-five finishes in their last 18 events, marking the best stretch in program history.

The Sooners' 2021 spring schedule will be announced at a later date. For more information on Oklahoma men's golf, you can follow the team on Twitter and Instagram (@OU_MGolf) and Facebook at Oklahoma Men's Golf.
