NORMAN — University of Oklahoma offensive lineman Creed Humphrey was named to the Associated Press preseason All-America first team and kicker Gabe Brkic was named to the preseason All-America second team, it was announced Tuesday.
The team was selected by 47 AP poll voters, who were asked to consider all Division I players — even those who had already opted out of the season or whose teams had postponed football.
Humphrey, a redshirt junior from Shawnee, Okla., was the 2019 Big 12 Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year and a finalist for the Rimington Trophy for the nation's top center. A second-team All-American and a first-team All-Big 12 selection last season, he has made 25 starts over the last two years, including in all 14 games in 2019. Humphrey anchored the middle of OU's O-line unit that won the Joe Moore Award in 2018 and was a semifinalist in 2019. He is also a 2020 preseason first-team All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation and Sporting News.
Brkic, a redshirt sophomore from Chardon, Ohio, was the only placekicker nationally who made all of his field goal and extra point tries in 2019 (69 for 69 combined). Also a Lou Groza Award semifinalist and a second-team All-Big 12 selection last season, Brkic took over kicking duties prior to the Sooners' fourth game of the season and went 17 for 17 on field goal attempts and 52 for 52 on PATs, earning freshman All-America honors from the FWAA and The Athletic, and first-team All-America honors from CBS Sports. His 103 kicking points were the most by an FBS player without a miss since at least 1996. He is also a 2020 preseason All-American by Sporting News.
OU opens the 2020 season by hosting Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
