NORMAN – For the second time in three weeks, Oklahoma men’s gymnastics junior Emre Dodanli won all three events in which he competed and was named the MPSF Specialist of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Dodanli scored at least 14.100 on each of his three events to lead Oklahoma in its meet at Illinois on Sunday. He posted a career-high 14.750 on vault and notched a 14.500 on floor exercise and a 14.100 on the high bar to score a three-event total of 43.350.
Sunday’s meet represented the second this season in which the Milton, Ontario, product has competed in three events and won all of them (the other was the season opener vs. Air Force). Dodanli, who has won seven individual event titles this season, leads the nation with his 14.833 average on floor exercise.
This is the fifth MPSF weekly award OU gymnasts have earned this season. Dodanli was named Specialist of the Week on Jan. 16, and on Jan. 23, redshirt sophomore Fuzzy Benas was named MPSF Gymnast of the Week, sophomore Ignacio Yockers was named MPSF Specialist of the Week and Colin Flores was named Freshman of the Week.
No. 2 Oklahoma returns home to McCasland Field House on Saturday at 5:45 p.m. for a tri-meet against No. 6 Ohio State and Arizona State. The meet is OU’s annual Cleveland Elementary Night and also Safari Night, featuring a petting zoo with exotic animals, a balloon artist, face painters and a t-shirt giveaway, as well as $2 beers, sodas and popcorn.
