NORMAN — University of Oklahoma track and field sophomore Payden Montana was named the women’s Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon. 

Montana continued her impressive start to her first season as a Sooner at the Charlie Thomas Invitational in College Station, Texas. Montana brought home OU’s second of six wins on the day, claiming the women’s shot-put title. The Sooner threw a mark of 53-8.5 (16.37m). 

The Pennsylvania native holds two shot put victories on the year and the No. 11 spot on the NCAA Indoor Performance List. Additionally, she is ranked No. 2 on the Big 12 Indoor Performance List for shot put. 

The sophomore is the first Oklahoma track and field athlete to receive the Big 12 honor for the 2020-2021 indoor season.

OU track and field teams return to action Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12-13, at the Texas Tech Shootout in Lubbock, Texas.
